Episode 3: Broderick Hunter
previously on Not My Body
Aliens from another world have been around longer than we have known and maybe even before human kind. They’ve been in hiding. Watching us from right underneath our noses and we’ve been blind the whole time. Their camouflage is slowly becoming distinguishable and they are coming out to confess their presence to the world. This is Not My Body: Alien Confessions.
"Who is it this time?" My dad asked. I should clarify something. The thing controlling my dad is an alien who used to be inside of my body, but before that he was inside of my friend Kevin. I have no idea how long he was inside of him, but I know that he is an ally. I think. Even though he is keeping up appearances, he does disappear often.
"It's a model." I looked at the screen. It had been a week since the last episode and we were looking for where they were shooting. The location of the interview site has been a secret and we haven't been able to get a lead.
Broderick Hunter Jr., born on January 3rd 1991, is a model who started his career in 2011. He has been the star in editorials in Cosmopolitan, Vogue Paris, Italian GM, and many more. We get to have an exclusive interview with the man who is not a man at all. Take a look.
Broderick appeared on the screen in a black shirt, posing for the camera. Hands behind his head showing off his muscular arms and then a side shot of his beautiful eyes. The speaker was voicing over the whole time giving us a little bit of backstory about him. Shots of his hometown and old workplaces appeared before it went into the interview.
"This is still bullshit." My dad shrugged it off. He had usually kept my dad's personality, but recently he's been letting it slip. I didn't mind, it was kind of cool seeing my dad this way. Plus, he kept up his work schedule and nobody could tell the difference.
"So, Broderick, should I call you that or do you have another name?"
The interviewer leaned in slightly. She seemed a little aggressive. My dad went into the kitchen to get a snack, something he did often with my new friend inside of him. He seemed to be hungry all the time.
"I think Broderick will be just fine."
"Perfect. Why don't you tell us about how you obtained this man's body?"
"Okay. Um, my species came to this planet quite some time ago. We are a non-lethal camouflage species. That basically means we pick a living being on a planet and blend in with them until we need to move on."
"So, you chose humans?"
"No, I didn't, at least. We chose rats."
"Wow. I did not see that one coming." I said, leaning in closer.
"We chose rats because it was easiest to blend in. As a population it wasn't difficult integrating ourselves into the world of sewers. After a while, we started branching off and exploring on our own. I ended up in a locker room some time ago and after being cornered by the body I am in now, I chose to take control."
Broderick looked behind the interviewer and shifted in his seat. My dad finally returned to the living room to see the uncomfortable stare the model was giving the crew. This lead us to believe that there was more than just a crew there.
"And how did you do that?"
"When he tried to grab me, the moment I touched his skin I disappeared underneath. I was able to fight for control and eventually I had a new form. I then did what my species does best and that was blend in."
The screen went to another image of him looking at the camera. He was a very handsome man.
"Can we see you? Is that possible?"
The interviewer seemed like she was frozen on the chair and only her lips were moving. Her face was stuck in a strange expression, but Broderick did what he was asked. He glanced behind the interviewer before his eyes flickered. A rat appeared under his shirt and crawled out through the neckline, perching itself on his shoulder. He seemed to have total control of his body even though he wasn't inside of it.
"He's in trouble if that's all he is." My dad said.
"Are you okay?"
The camera shifted angles when Broderick asked this question and then suddenly the camera fell. The sound of people rushing came through the television and then the rat appeared in the shot, scurrying to an exit. Gun shots followed as the rat fled the scene, leaving through a door that had been cracked open by one of the interns. The light had adjusted and outside of the building was an In-N-Out sign that had all the paint chipped off. Someone picked the camera back up and it was facing the interviewer, her eye twitching and the back of her head emitting steam.
"Why the fuck did someone not catch this?"
The screen went black and then the voice-over finished the episode.
If you or anyone you know wants to come out of hiding, please call this number. We’re here for you.
"He escaped!" My dad was excited and I stopped him.
"Listen. Now that I know for sure this is a thing that is a problem I need some answers. It's been a week and you keep going in and out not just keep everything looking normal, but I know you do other things. I also want to know what your real name is. You haven't even told me that and that's just a common courtesy - "
"Ok -" He tried interrupting me.
"And I want to know why you think I'm an alien." I could feel the heat in my face and took a deep breath in.
"Free to speak?" I gave him a nod. "I go out because I'm trying to tell all of my friends to avoid the show and get the word out. If I don't then they might become convinced. Unfortunately, they don't know a lot of other species and so they keep it to themselves. My real name is Ky. You are an alien, but not because of your dad or anything," He touched his chest and puffed it out a little, "yeah, he's not the alien. It must be your mom or something."
"My mom? She disappeared when my dad came out. Not that it matters to you. Plus, how could I not know I'm some kind of creature?" I sat down on the sofa and turned off the television. It had been running some commercial for the show since the show crashed.
"Well, you probably are just half. Whatever it is, it will be okay. You're human enough to blend in." He shrugged and joined me.
"So what do we do now?" I pointed at the screen.
"They're going to be hunting now. So that's a thing. But, we have a clue to where this place might be and I think it's time you met some people. But first, I need to get a new body." He stood up and looked at himself in the mirror with a sad face, "You pick." He looked at me through the mirror and I knew exactly who I wanted him in.
