The gym had a rather odd smell emanating through the closed glass doors. I had never been one to go to the gym and opted to go for runs around my neighborhood and participate in cardio from home, but something about the day made me wander into the gym. At first glance, everything seemed to be normal with the sounds of clinking gym equipment and grunting jocks echoing from the second floor down to the first floor where I was met by a large man.
“Hi there, I was just inquiring about a membership here?” I had my bag hanging off my shoulder with the intention of spending at least an hour here if I went through with the purchase. The muscled man behind the counter tapped at the keyboard connected to the screen and then turned the card reader towards me. When he explained the membership options I had chosen the cheapest. Starting small with the ‘basic’ plan and then eventually if I wanted more I would increase my membership status to the more glamourous names like the ‘gold membership’ or ‘elite.’
“Let me get your card.” He scanned a series of plastic squares. Two keychain identification cards and one with ‘basic member’ written in white letters on a gray background. The barcode on the back would let me in.
“Thank you.” I slid the key-chains into my bag and went through the gate towards the stairs.
The sounds of the gym increased in volume the closer I got to them and the moment I reached the top step I could feel the eyes turn towards me. I felt so small even though I wasn’t the smallest guy here, but the stares made me feel as though I had stepped into a room I didn’t belong. This was part of the reason I didn’t want to join a gym in the first place with all the judgement from meatheads and the competitive glances from roided up jocks. Nevertheless, I found myself at an elliptical preparing to jam out while I climbed some fake stairs. With my bag in sight, I started climbing.
HEY. Came a muffled voice from behind me. At first I thought it was just some random members bro-ing out, but then I heard it again even louder this time which made me fall off the machine I had been working out on.
“Ow, what the fuck?” I had pulled out my headphones to find nothing and no one around me. I spun my head, though, to find other members chuckling and staring even more than they were before.
“Sorry about that.” The voice said again and then I felt a hand grab mine and pull me up. I quickly retracted it once I found my balance and started to feel panicked.
“What the fuck?” I looked down at my hand which was now much cooler than it was before as though the temperature around my hand had dropped.
“Calm down, Sam. It’s me.” Almost instantly I could see the outline of another human in front of me only the space where his legs should have been now contained a tail which flicked as he floated. While the urge to scream was definitely present, I recognized his face despite being see-through.
“Derek? What is happening?” I had calmed down significantly.
“Dude, I died. Car accident.” He shrugged.
“When?”
“A couple years after graduating. I was a sophomore in college. It was a bummer at the time, but now I’m living the life.” He reached his hands above his head and pretended to sit on an invisible chair. He was slightly pudgy, with a bit of a belly underneath his ectoplasmic shirt which I assumed he died in. There seemed to be a burn where the seat belt would have been. That was when I noticed the scar-like gash on his head. It wasn’t noticeable at first, but now that I was staring at him I could see almost all the injuries.
“Sorry,” I started after realizing I had just been staring, “you’re a ghost?” There was no more fear and now I was only intrigued. The idea of an afterlife was interesting enough, but now there was proof.
“Yeah. Sorry about how I look, I was actually going to jump into you until I realized who it was.” He shrugged.
“What do you mean?”
“Hold on. Follow me.” He started to glide along the tiled floor until we reached a corner with a set of weights. The window looked out into an alley and the wall was lined with planks of wood. There was a man working out without his shirt on and when he saw me he smirked. With a roll of my eyes I noticed that Derek was floating in front of him.
“Open up.” He said and then suddenly the man dropped his hands to his sides and leaned his head back as Derek’s ghostly form slipped into his mouth. When the last of him inched his way inside, the jock convulsed with his eyes fluttering until his whole body froze. He swallowed what I assumed to be Derek and then lifted his head to look at me.
“How about this?” He asked, showing off his body for me.
“I’m not entirely sure what just happened,” my dick twitched as he flexed his pecs, “but that’s fucking cool.” I stepped forwards to get a better look and then he grabbed my hands, bringing them to his chest so I could feel him.
“Oh, that feels good.” He said, referencing the human touch.
“Wow.” I was amazed.
“My senses are always heightened when I take over. I wish I could show you what it feels like, but that would involve something you won’t want.” He shrugged and then I pulled back.
“This is amazing!” I was having a hard time finding words for how I felt. The excitement sort of took over.
“Follow me again, this gym is a normal hang out for ghosts. No cards needed.” He flexed his arms and then started walking towards an opaque glass door. If you listened closely you could hear the sound of men grunting as they fucked each other. On the other side, we were immediately stopped by a hulking man with huge arms. He grabbed my arm with such force I felt like it was going to fall from its joint.
“This is a members only area.” He said. I noticed that his eyes had glistened in the light as though there was something off. I could only assume he was possessed as well.
“It’s fine Mad Max, he’s with me.” His pet name for the bodyguard was cute. That was when I noticed Derek’s eyes turn white for a moment and then he let go of my arm.
“Don’t be causing any trouble now. We have a good gig here and we don’t need a fleshy messing this up.” He was talking to both of us, but I could tell he was directing it at me. I was obviously living, I guess.
In the back was a lounge with a large bath. I could see ghost floating about without care in the world and the moment we entered the room I could feel the awkward wave once more. Derek stepped in front of me and lifted his arms up to keep the ghost from coming toward us.
“He’s mine, guys. An old friend. He knows too, so you don’t have to worry.” He said. All the ghosts calmed, but I could tell they were upset by their responses.
“Ah.”
“Fucking Derek.”
“Great. A Fleshy.”
“Shut the fuck up and go back to whatever it is you all were fucking.” He waved them away and then we walked around the large pool of water towards another room. We passed a few saunas and private rooms occupied by possessed men who were doing to each other what they would have done in life if given the freedom. We reached another door and entered the small a room. It was a private room that seemed to have been set up like a bedroom.
“What’s this?” I asked, looking around. I noticed an empty pizza box hiding under the bed.
“This is my room. Not much, but I like exploring men on my own.” He was talking about the men he took over and I could see why. Jocks would come in here and he would take them for a spin and then release them back in the weight room.
“Cool.” I grinned and put my bag down. I looked at him lustfully and then smiled.
“I always had a crush on you.” I was shocked. I didn’t understand why. I was average build and a little tall, but I was nothing like the body he had under his control.
“Oh.” I stepped towards him and he stepped closer as well. There was a faint scent of sweat from the workout his host had just been putting himself through and then I felt his hand touch mine.
“What do you say we explore this one together, huh?” He was so close to my face and all I wanted to do was kiss him.
“Sure.” I whispered and then we found ourselves clawing at each other and exploring his current host.
