323: Missing in Action

Author's Note: This story was originally posted as part of the Summer Season (2015) titled "323: Missing the Movie"

The window squeaked as the driver rolled it up. I had jumped into the back seat just in time to avoid Crow who came storming around the corner looking for the commotion that was just caused. The phone in my pocket buzzed and had been buzzing ever since I got separated from Michael and the light from the screen allowed the hunter to see my face. Locking the screen I looked at the driver and told him to drive.

The squealing tires distracted him long enough for us to get away, his hands immediately pressing against his ears to block the sound. When we got far enough away, he skidded the car into the curb and parked, turning in his seat to get a better view of me.

"It's good to see you again." Dylan said, his eyes a little dark from the lack of my own presence in his body. I could already tell he had been going through the withdrawals.

"Thank you for saving me." I looked out the window, trying to control my breath as I panicked in the back seat.

"I know you need help. I can feel it. I can help you get out of here, but you have to get inside of me." He said.

"I can't." I turned my head, as a car drove by.

"You need to. Plus, how I feel when you are inside of me is one of the best things I have ever felt. It's so freeing!" He said, staring at me until our eyes met. I could tell he wanted me inside of him and I needed to get out of this one. I could feel blood trickling down my spine from the lighting fixture at the party.

"Fine." I said, sitting up in the seat and wincing as the pain ricochet through my body. Dylan licked his lips and stared at me, eager to have me fill him up again.

"Just kiss me." I said, grabbing his head and pulling his lips to my own. I released control of my host, slithering up through my throat and into his mouth to fill him up just like I had done before. The possession was much easier since I had already merged with his body and it accepted me like a well worn coat. A moan escaped his lips as Beau fell back into the car and I took control. I flexed quickly, cracking my neck to get comfortable.

In front of me, Crow emerged from the darkness, running towards the car I was now the driver of. I slammed my foot on the gas, speeding towards the other possessed human. The Crow jumped at the last second, his arm catching on the front headlight which sent him stumbling into the ground and the speed at which I was going at kept him from getting a good look at my face - one which he hadn't seen yet. Once I was far enough away, I looked in my mirror to see him standing with blood gushing out of his arm. One lick and his vessel's wound would heal quickly.

I took a deep breath and I almost choked on the intake. I think I had forgotten to breath this whole time fearing for my life. I had been driving for a while when I noticed the frat house. It had been only a couple of hours since I left and outside of the mansion and Michael was sitting in his car, parked all alone. His elbow was propped up on the window and his fingers were massaging his temple.

“Hey there.” I pulled up to him and rolled down the passenger side window.

“Hey.” He finally said, reaching for the button to roll up his own window in the awkward silence. I really thought he was going to look up but he didn’t even put his phone down.

“I’m sorry I had to go.” I said.

“Oh. It’s you in there?” He questioned but he still didn’t look up, scrolling even more on his phone.

“I had to.” I looked into the back seat at Beau's collapsed body and I knew I deserved the silence. I had left him alone for an hour and for all he knew I could have been dead in a ditch somewhere or kidnapped by a vicious alien who likes to steal life from most creatures. I had to tell him.

“I want to go home.” Michael locked his phone and looked up at me, rolling up his window and locking eyes with me the whole time.

“You were going to be hurt.” I spit it out, his window stopping halfway up his face.

“What do you mean? I walked around the outside of this stupid frat house looking for you and then I waited in my car in the hopes that you would come back. I waited because I hoped and I believed in you and you scared the fuck out of me.” There was a long pause.

“I have something to tell you. It’s about why I’m here.” I tightened Beau's fingers around the car keys and attempted to join Michael in his, but the locking mechanism had been engaged.

"Tell me." He leaned over the center and stared at me. I could tell he was hurt and it was my fault.

"Can we go back to my apartment. It's important." I was desperate. The Crow could be anywhere and I needed a friend right now.

"Fine." The lock unlatched and I quickly got into the car.

"Let's go home." I buckled my seat belt and looked out the windows, making sure the coast was clear.

“Are you okay?” Michael asked.

“No." I said, looking inside of a vehicle stopped at a spotlight. As Michael turned I pressed myself farther back into the seat, noticing the evil glare coming from the front seat and the hollowed out corpse in the passenger seat.
