Box of Souls: Unlocked

The bell above the door rang and I was out the door as quickly as possible. The owner of the shop was arguing with another customer which gave me the perfect opportunity to grab something off the shelves and book it. There were quite a few items in the shop, most of them looked like they were older than dirt so I picked something at random with the hopes that it would at least be worth a couple bucks. The argument behind me dissipated into the evening as I dashed down the street avoiding eye contact with anyone. When I finally reached my apartment, I locked myself inside and slid down the door.

"Let's see what we've got." I pulled out the box and turned it over, looking at the detailed carvings along the side. I gave it a little shake, noticing that it was locked. I push myself off the ground and pulled out my laptop, typing the intricately carved words into the search bar only to be met with nothing that the internet could find. I did some more digging, scouring the web to find anything that even looked similar to it, but I was met with empty pages and virus filled click bait. I slightly tossed it to the side and huffed, realizing that I stole the one worthless thing in that antique shop. The first thought in my head was this is what I get for stealing and I picked up the box again.

I didn’t want to be a thief, in fact this was the first time I had ever done such a thing which is probably why I selected something so worthless. I am always on time for rent and bills, but I was recently let go from due to budget cuts and my name just didn’t make the list of people who should stay. I was just exploring the shop when that creeping thought made my hands slip the box into my bag.

"What's that?" My roommate had come home from the gym and looked as amazing as ever. It's a little disheartening having a model for a roommate, but I couldn't afford this place by myself and Ray was nice to me. Plus, he paid rent on time which is more than I can say about myself now.

"Just a little something I picked up. Do you want it?" I asked, sliding it along the counter. I had caught a glimpse of his abs and then immediately turned to my computer. I could still see his reflection in the dark parts of the screen which made me grin. Ray picked up the box and fiddled around with it, wandering over to the living room where I heard the click.

”What was that?” I turned immediately and watched as Ray opened the lid. Just as he did, his mouth opened as a glowing orb slipped up through his throat and then into the box. He collapsed to the ground, sliding along the floor as the box bounced on the wood and landed at my feet. I quickly went over to him, checking for a pulse to which I found one that was very faint.

The box rumbled in my periphery and then I saw a couple of colored orbs appear out of the box. Quite a few of them phased through the windows, disappearing into the crowd of the city, but one remained. It bounced off the walls until it curved around me and slammed directly into Ray’s mouth. His body jolted as the glowing orb went into his mouth. I could see the light shine through his skin and he convulsed there. Gulping as whatever just flew into him took control.

”Oh shit, this is amazing!” He yelled, his eyes more alert than ever. He looked down and his smile was even larger.

“Are you okay?” I asked, one hand on his shoulder. He looked up at me, gave me a quick scan and then pushed his lips into mine. As we kissed, I had an urge to push back, but that slowly subsided as he pushed into me even more, his hand sliding against the back of my neck.

”Damn, you taste so good.” He said in a moment of breath. I pushed his chest, hesitating as I felt his pecs under my fingers.

”What just happened?” I tried to get ahold of myself and as much as I didn’t want to, I pushed myself off the ground.

”Oh, shit,” he noticed the open box, “fuck, fuck fuck!” He quickly ran over to it and closed the lid, the mechanism locking back into place.

”Hello?” I furrowed my brow and crossed my arms. It was so strange seeing Ray act like this, but something about it turned me on. His expressions were lovely and playful as opposed to the cold seriousness he normally defaulted to. People didn’t mess with him because he was not only massive, but he looked mad at most things. Only people close to him could know that he’s just a chill dude.

”Did you see how many got out?” Even panicked he looked cute.

”No. Why?”

”Because I was distracted by this,” he waved his arms up and down his body, “and you.” I blushed a little when he said this. He went to the window and looked out to see where they had possibly gone to.

”What are those things? What are you?” I was still looking at him with a curious and also confused look on my face.

"Ah. I was so swept up in feeling again. Is this your boyfriend? He's hot." He flexed his arms and and looked down at his shirtless body.

"No. I wish." I said much to quickly, the blood rushing to my cheeks again.

"Well, I'm Damien. I was created as the first responder of sorts to make sure those other souls didn't get out. You see, when my master was alive, those other souls crossed him and they were terrible people, some of them even murderers, I'm not really human but I used to be an assistant of sorts. The guy I used to inhabit didn't look too far off from your not-boyfriend here." He flexed again, enamored.

"Okay, stop that," I was getting extremely turned on by the display of muscle before me and it needed to stop or else I wouldn't be able to control myself, "how do we fix this? We can't have a bunch of murderers running about especially if they take over bodies like you did."

"You're right," He quickly scrounged for a shirt and put it on, getting a little caught up in the loose tank top.

I still wasn't sure what was going on, but I figured this would be nice to spend some time with Ray even if he wasn't the one in control.

”Is Ray going to be okay?” I asked.

”If he‘s in here he’ll be safe and sound. I just need to use his body to get the others,” he slipped the shirt on successfully and turned towards me, “I can tell you don’t mind.” His eyes had glanced towards my bulge and I embarrassingly covered it.

"What should I do?" I shuffled my feet.

"I thought you were coming with me? You are my new master after all." He winked at me and then disappeared down the hallway, leaving the door open for me to follow him.
